The trade war enters a new stage

First week
August 2019

Donald Trump is back at it and has upped his threats against China. Last Friday he presented a 10-percentage-point increase on tariffs starting September 1st, which will affect USD 300 billion in Chinese exports to the US. For the first time China replied more bluntly, allowing its currency to depreciate 1.5% and surpassing 7 Yuan per Dollar, its lowest value in ten years. We must pay attention to China’s vigorous decision, since it is something new that had not happened before in the trade conflict with the US. After this decision, Trump went on and once again accused China of “manipulating” the Yuan.
