Towards a more normal tax system

Fifth week
October 2017

Argentina’s tax pressure is one of the highest in the world and it is based on a large number of taxes that discourage production, employment and a greater use of bank accounts.

The tax system in Argentina has a very different design compared to other countries. It has a relatively low incidence of direct or “progressive” taxes that levy people’s income or property, such as the Income or the Real Estate tax, and an extremely high incidence of indirect taxes that levy the sale or final consumption of goods and services, such as VAT or Gross Income taxes.
