Massa’s First Month in a Rocky Political Moment

First week
September 2022

Sergio Massa completed his first month as "super-minister" of Finance with several achievements and some failures while many questions remain about the future. During this period, he managed to assert a greater political weight than his predecessors and to keep a certain independence with respect to Alberto Fernandez and Cristina Kirchner in a large part of his decisions. It is clear that this independence is not total, as shown by the difficulties he had in appointing his deputy minister, Gabriel Rubinstein, an orthodox economist with highly critical tweets against Cristina.
