The economy in election mode: this time it will be different

Second week
May 2019

2019 will be the first election to occur during a recessive year since the 2009 crisis, and also the first one in which private consumption reaches October below its levels from the previous year. This time, the economic situation will hardly be the center of the Government’s campaign: rather, it will become an obstacle to avoid in the path towards reelection. We are not ruling out that, in order to do so, the Government will decide to stimulate consumption and activity before the elections, even if this means not complying with the targets set together with the IMF for this year.
