In 2014 the Argentine economy went through a rough year. Early on, the January devaluation took the market by surprise and meant a departure from the managed float exchange rate policy that had been followed throughout the Kirchner administration.  

While the depreciation of the currency was needed, the way it was done and the uncertainty that prevailed in the following weeks had a deep impact on the evolution of key economic variables.
